From Shrimp Croquettes to Sustainable Plant-Based Delights: The Inspiring Story Behind Nomet

Nomet was founded by Mona Delagrange in the summer of 2021, inspired by her love of delicious, plant-based food. Growing up near the Belgian coast, Mona was used to eating seafood dishes like shrimp croquettes. However, as she learned more about animal agriculture and the environmental impact of animal products, she made the decision to adopt a plant-based diet.

Despite her commitment to conscious consumption, Mona didn't want to sacrifice the taste and enjoyment of food. With this in mind, she set out to create a plant-based version of her childhood favorite, the shrimp croquette. Using seaweed as a key ingredient, Mona developed a recipe that was creamy, tasty, and full of the soft, sea-flavours she loved.

"I believe that you can eat consciously without sacrificing the joy and pleasure of delicious food. That's why I made it my mission to showcase the delicious and versatile flavours of seaweed and prove that plant-based eating can be enjoyable and satisfying for everyone."

In the summer of 2021, Nomet's seaweed croquette was born. Made by hand in a rental kitchen in Bruges, the product quickly gained recognition, making it to the finals of the Belgian Vegan Awards in 2021 and earning third place in the Sustainable Family Awards.

Driven by the success of Nomet's seaweed croquette, Mona left her career as a scientist in academia and the food industry to focus on growing her purpose-driven food business. Today, Nomet continues to innovate and bring delicious, sustainable plant-based products to market.
