From Belgian Croquette Tradition
to a New Kind of Snack
Nomet was born in Bruges, where founder Mona Delagrange decided to reimagine one of Belgiumβs most beloved dishes β the croquette.
Growing up by the Belgian coast, Monaβs favourite food was the shrimp croquette: crispy, creamy, salty, and full of flavour. But after learning more about the environmental impact of animal-based products, she switched to a plant-based lifestyle β and missed that taste of the sea.
Thatβs when she discovered seaweed. Its naturally salty and umami flavour brought her right back to the coast. The more she learned, the more it clicked: seaweed is full of minerals and fibre. It grows without land, fertiliser, or fresh water. Itβs pure potential.
where it all began
Soon after, Mona teamed up with An-Sofie, who had just returned from ten years in Shanghai, where seaweed is a daily staple. Together, they built the first Nomet recipes β crunchy on the outside, creamy on the inside, and packed with real seaweed pieces you can see and taste.
What started in a small rental kitchen quickly gained recognition: Nomet reached the finals of the Belgian Vegan Awards in 2021 and placed third at the Sustainable Family Awards.
Today, Nomet proudly introduces vegan snacks that feel unmistakably Belgian β festive and convenient, yet forward-thinking, with seaweed leading the way to a more flavourful and sustainable future.
